A Delightful New Romance Novel
No, I’m not changing up my genre; not yet, at least. This was based on a prompt about misheard lyrics.
Stella yearned to ride a horse. She’d stare longingly at the neighbors’ farms with their majestic equine creatures.
It’s not that she was unhappy with her flock—she loved her hens and roosters—but it just wasn’t the same as a swift horse with its smooth coat and flowing mane. She’d daydream about galloping across the rolling Kentucky fields on a beautiful palomino.
But then the insistent clucking would bring her back to reality. She bred giant chickens. Despite the birds’ size, they were still skittish around other animals, and the other animals felt similarly.
Stella’s handsome farmhand Duke knew of her desires, but didn’t understand them. Why would she want an ordinary horse when she had extraordinary animals? He’d shake his head and mutter to himself,
“She’s got a chicken to ride, but she don’t care.”
