#CursedFootage Day 3: Folklore

Excerpt from the journal of Diane Dawson, professor of Occult and Arcane Studies at Miskatonic University.

“7/2/22

~On this day, I learned of a great secret. One that has lurked at the edges of my arcane researches for years. Not many scholars know or even suspect this secret, but it was known to the people of Mu, and is what led to their eradication. This knowledge is powerful enough to destroy an entire civilization if used improperly. Ha. Can there ever be a proper way to use this information? I only know it in part, and already I can feel it inundating my mind, pushing me to further my studies.

What I speak of is a name. Names have power—we learned this as children when “Rumplestiltskin” was read to us. I dare not speak or even write the proper name of this entity, so I’ll just refer to it as “!” That’s how the name feels as it rattles around my mind—an inarticulate scream, or an error message, or both. The human brain was not meant to even suspect this information, let alone know it to the extent I do. I should just stop my studies and blow my brains out now, but I’m cursed with one of the most fatal human flaws—curiosity.”
